Please read these Terms and Conditions ("Terms") carefully before using the INCEpTION@UKP service i.e. the community edition, the stable edition, the testing edition and the experimental edition (the "Service", "INCEpTION") operated by the UKP Lab ("us", "we", or "our").

Your access to and use of the Service is conditioned on your acceptance of and compliance with these Terms. These Terms apply to all visitors, project managers, users and others who access or use the Service.

By accessing or using the Service you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you disagree with any part of the terms then you may not access the Service.

Description of the Service

The INCEpTION@UKP service provides the European research community a text annotation tool that allows project managers to upload document collections which can be enriched with structured information by annotators and curated into an annotated corpus. For more information see our website.

Liability

In no event shall the UKP Lab be liable for any special, direct, indirect, consequential, or incidental damages or any damages whatsoever arising out of or in connection with the use of the Service or the contents of the Service. This includes data loss, damages caused by software updates or errors or damages caused by bad actors. We do not guarantee any data safety and users are encouraged to locally backup their projects by exporting them.

We reserve the right to make additions, deletions, or modifications to the contents on the Service, as well as the software and hardware used for providing the Service at any time without prior notice.

The UKP Lab does not warrant that the website is free of viruses or other harmful components. We do not guarantee availability or error-free operation of the Service. We do not guarantee that software errors will be fixed or that software versions will be compatible with each other and do not guarantee user support.

The Service allows project managers to upload document collections. The project managers are responsible that this material is not harmful to others, infringes copyright or violates any European laws. The UKP Lab is not liable for user-generated content or responsible to check compliance.

The UKP Lab may terminate the Service at any time.

Privacy Policy

This privacy policy states what happens with your personal data that is retrieved during the use of this Service according to Article 13 EU GDPR. The user data is used to ensure functionality and security of the Service based on Art. 6 Sec. 1 b) EU GDPR. You have the right to request information on your personal data, to request its deletion or rectification, as well as object to its further processing and withdraw your consent. In case of dispute you may file a complaint with the Hessian Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.

Personal data and log files are used by the Service for:

Third parties to whom personal data is disclosed

Your UserID is visible to other users of this INCEpTION instance, so that users can identify each other for collaboration on projects. Your UserID is also used to associate you with your projects and your contributions to those projects, which is necessary for INCEpTION functionality. Your email address may be used by local administrative staff to contact you in case of planned server downtime or other system notifications that affect INCEpTION users. Your personal data is used for these purposes only, and is not disclosed to any other third parties.

How to access, rectify and delete the personal data

Use the technical contact above for any requests. For the community edition, to rectify the data released by your Home Organization (Identity Provider), contact your Home Organisation's IT helpdesk.

Data retention

Personal data and information are not stored for longer than three months in log files. A user's account is associated with projects that they own or contribute to, until such projects are deleted.

Anonymous usage statistics

We further collect anonymous usage statistics to help discover the number of enabled and currently logged-in users, documents and enabled recommenders to support future development as well as bug fixing. However, for this we do not collect any specific information on the users, documents or recommenders apart from their overall number and do not associate them with specific projects or personal identifiers.

Obligations of the user

Users are responsible for the actions executed from their accounts. The project managers are responsible to only upload content which does not infringe copyright, is harmful to others or otherwise illegal under European law. Project managers and other users are responsible that the information they add to this content (i.e. annotations) also adheres to this. Users commit to not using the Service for any illegal activities such as file-sharing or storage of illegal material. They are also obligated to not perform any actions that are harmful to the Service such as exploitation of security flaws or denial-of-service attacks. We may terminate user accounts at any time.

Copyright

The Service allows project managers to upload document collections and users to add their own content to these collections. The copyright for this user-generated content does not lie with the UKP Lab. The project managers may add their own copyright notices to their document collections in accordance with applicable law.

Uploaded material may be processed and saved by the Service to provide its functionality (such as segmentation, recommendation, storage, export etc.).

Changes

We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to modify or replace these Terms at any time.
